Minimum income needed to afford rent in Calgary is “out of control”

A recent report indicates that the wages required to afford one- or two-bedroom apartments in Calgary far exceed the city's minimum wage. To rent a one-bedroom, residents need at least $28.92 per hour, while a two-bedroom requires $33.46 per hour, over $13 more than the minimum wage. The report highlights that no neighborhoods in Calgary offer affordable rental units for full-time minimum-wage workers, and even two full-time minimum-wage incomes fall short for a two-bedroom apartment. Other cities like Vancouver, Toronto, and Victoria also face similar challenges.
